about

This album displays the fruits of an extremely productive collaboration between me and guitarist David Williams, both based in the Midlands at the time. Piano and guitar are both chordal instruments. Bringing the two together into close partnership required us to listen hard and to leave space, so that the music breathes. In our case the union was productive and we seemed to hit it off from the outset. At the time David had only recently left university with a first class music degree and it was up to me to introduce him to the delights of playing the wonderful standards penned by the likes of Cole Porter, Jerome Kern and Richard Rodgers, as well as to some of my more quirky original compositions. Since the time of our collaboration, David has gone on to become an extremely competent and in-demand guitarist, capable of everything from acoustic solo work through to playing in a jazz big band.
